Led by Venture Café Program Manager Tricia Bitetto, this interactive session is for anyone interested in giving a talk at Venture Café. With over 300 hours of programming hosted across a wide range of industries, Venture Café provides an industry-agnostic platform that spans the full innovation ecosystem. In this session, you’ll practice communicating your ideas clearly, outline a compelling session, and explore ways to engage an audience. Whether you’re developing a new idea or refining a concept you’ve already proposed, you’ll leave with a practical framework and tips for turning your idea into a mini talk. This session is designed as a space to experiment, try out new ideas, and explore how you might share your perspective with the Venture Café community.
Elon Musk famously used the glass-eating analogy about running a startup. Our circumstances are, of course, different than his, but, in many situations, bear uncanny similarities. With mountains of setbacks, uncertainties, divergent roads ahead, which path to take, which cliff to jump off from, which flight to take, become extremely difficult decisions to make for an entrepreneur alone. A venture may survive one bad decision, but a series of intractable bad decisions may spell death – “the abyss of death” in Elon’s words. If you’re an entrepreneur faced with difficult decisions, come share with us your situation and we will help you figure out ways forward. If you are someone who has successfully navigated through difficult situations, we want to hear your stories and have you share your wisdom. If you just want to listen, learn, and reflect on the shared Founder stories, you’re welcome too. It’s a roundtable discussion among founders. See you there on the 5th floor in the Santo Domingo Room!
An alternate title might be: Some Tidbits to Make You Rich and Famous
Just what does it take to succeed? To launch a venture? To get funded? To get a job? To get others to listen? Building something meaningful, whether a company, a career, or a new idea, rarely follows a straight line. It’s shaped by experience, missteps, and moments of clarity along the way.
Here’s a handful of advice for startups, scaling companies, job-seekers, and those with novel ideas–to nurture those ideas, influence others, exploit opportunity, and just plain get a little better and more confident about all things.
Chuck Goldstone—author, entrepreneur, teacher, mentor, authority on the power of story, and enthusiastic supporter of those with ideas and aspirations—shares two dozen or-or-so bits of advice learned through observation and the hard-knocks of figuring it out. Drawing from real-world experience rather than formulas, Chuck will offer practical guidance on navigating uncertainty, communicating with intention, and growing confidence as you move ideas forward.
